There are various kinds of systems which have been used to classify the types of hair. Among these systems, Andre Walker System is the most popular one. It was created by Andre Walker who was the hairstylist of Oprah Winfrey. According to this system, there are four types of hair which are straight hair, curly hair, wavy hair, and, kinky hair.
Straight hair is considered to be the shiniest type of hair. As the sebum can easily spread to every portion of the scalp, this type of hair does not get damaged easily and is very difficult to curl. Straight hair can also grow long very easily and quickly.
Curly hair textures usually have a ‘s' shaped curl pattern. The cuticle does not lie flat with this hair type. As a result, curly hair is not usually as shiny as straight hair. This type of hair is more prone to get damaged as the sebum cannot spread out easily on the scalp.
Wavy hair is not very dry like curly hairs and also not very oily like straight hair. Thus, the texture of this type of hair ranges between curly and straight hair. Wavy hair is also more prone to get damaged than straight hair.
This type of hair usually features coiled curling pattern which is very dense. Because of being dense, this type of hair is very fragile just like curly hair.
It is quite tough to determine which hair type is more common. Straight and shiny hair is generally very common among the people who reside in the Asian continent. Among the European and American people, the wavy hair texture is more common. Curly and kinky hair type is quite rare.
